Be TRUE

A couple walk the white sands of Panama City Beach, FL at sunset.

They say “Be true to Yourself”.  Okay, what does that mean?  Be true to what you’ve been taught or experienced?  How can that be right?  It is human nature to put ourself first! Being true to ourself comes naturally.  Building our lives based on “OUR TRUTH” is exactly like building our home on sand, a bad foundation spells disaster.

On the night of June 23 at !0:25pm, a luxury condominium in Surfside , FL collapsed. On that hot summer night 98 souls “living the dream”, lost their lives and their futures in a moment of time.  In the suburbs of southern Florida, they were all living their best life.  The problem wasn’t money, weather or fame.  Their home was built on a bad foundation.  Our life too,  must be built on a foundation of truth. Our thoughts build on certain foundational principles.  The following story points out the error of building your true foundation on the thoughts and opinions of others.

Sue-ellen grew up being told she was ugly and stupid.  Her parents, repeated this basic thought. In a myriad of ways, she was declared worthless, unworthy of happiness.  She was told “you’ll never grow up, never marry, never have children”.  She believed the lie. She was slave labor and sexually exploited.  Confined in a cell of confusion and shame she built her opinion of herself.  Of course she has since spent years in therapy and thousands of dollars rebuilding a foundation of true value.  Serious questions had to be answered: One is “Where Does My Value Come from? We are born with the ability to trust.  But this trust can be stolen from us.

We all have stories of being messed over by other people.  Some were honestly trying to teach us from their knowledge. Some people from our past were just sincerely wrong.    Some in the past stole our innocence.  In the act of growing up.  As we become adults we take RESPONSIBILITY for our own life. We only have the power to change ourselves. We can take responsibility for our thoughts. You can write your name here.  Only you have the power to rebuild your foundation and truth.  It happens for religious reasons, financial and social status.  At times a parent satisfies a need to live vicariously through their children. Whether your parents were Harvard grads or ex cons they helped create a lot of those neurotransmitters that control your thought pathways.  Good or bad you are a product of the environment you were born into: and how you process the information you receive from that environment.  Feedback from peers and how they perceive you. The bio-feedback you get from your own body is fast.  ( For reference you have  about 600 trillion synapses between neurons and they fire at about 330 mph).  Can you say with TRUE conviction that your sources of knowledge have been 100% solid?  Did you consider the SOURCE {foundation} of your knowledge?

Maybe all the things they taught you in high school weren’t exactly true either, it turns out.  My point is that what is the source of your truth?  Is it what those old toxic parental tapes tell you? Is it the OPINIONS of your  friends.  This kind of poison has crept into societal thinking world wide.  It flows like molasses, slow, messy and has taken captive the minds of other wise rational people.  Without a foundation a house cannot stand.  The mud, the mires, the cliffs of life demand a firm foundation.  Anchored to a solid rock an EF5 cannot shake that house.

Build Your House on the Rock

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
